The Single Most Important Factor in a High Search Ranking

By Glenn Murray, Director of Divine Write Copywriting

You’ll hear a lot of talk about what’s required to get a high search engine ranking. New techniques... Clever tricks... Quick, easy solutions... There’s no need to beat around the bush; most of it’s rubbish. All you really need for a high ranking is one thing. And surprise, surprise, it’s not something new, and it’s never been a trade secret. In fact, legitimate SEO companies have been harping on about it for years. They know that without this one thing, you can try every SEO trick under the sun, and it’ll get you nowhere.

So what is this magical ingredient? Links. Lots and lots of inbound links (aka ‘backlinks’ – links that point to your site from other sites). You see, the search engines assume that if a site’s good enough to have lots of links pointing to it, it must be fairly useful. And ‘useful’ sites are exactly what they want on page one of their search results.

Simplistically put, the more links you have to your site from other sites, the better your ranking. TIP: Think of the Internet as a big election, where every site is a candidate and every link TO a site is a vote for that candidate. The candidate (site) with the most votes (links TO it) wins! (If you’re still in doubt, Google “link popularity” or “link building”.)

So now that you know the importance of links, the trick is to figure out how to generate them. That’s where FreeCopywriting.com comes in.

FreeCopywriting.com allows you to generate lots of links to your site. You simply write some web copy that’s generic enough to be used by different businesses in a particular industry, but specific enough to be valuable. Then you submit it to FreeCopywriting.com. From there, it’ll be taken by any number of customers, who’ll tweak it and publish it on their site. In exchange, they’re obliged to include the following byline: “Copy by YourCompanyName and FreeCopywriting.com”, where YourCompanyName is a link back to your site.

Of course, your site also needs to be full of the same sorts of words that your potential customers are searching for (these are your ‘target keywords’). But that part’s easy – especially for a copywriter. Most legitimate sites naturally contain lots of target keywords, without much dedicated optimisation at all.

So don’t be fooled into thinking there’s a secret to ranking high. There isn’t. All you need to do is generate links. That’s not to say it’s easy. In fact, it takes quite a bit of work. But easy or not, without links, you simply won’t rank.
