Q: Why submit my copy?

A: Although you don't get paid to submit your copy to this site, there are some very real and legitimate benefits:

  1. Increased search ranking – You get a public profile, complete with an active link to your copywriting website. (Here's an example copywriter profile.) As you know, inbound links are the key to a high ranking, and links from high ranking, relevant sites are the best sort. More importantly, customers who use your copy on a website are required to include a link to your website in the footer of their web page. If your copy is used by a hundred different customers, that’s a hundred unique links to your website! In this respect, FreeCopywriting.com works much like article submission sites like EzineArticles.com; but instead of dealing in articles, it deals in copy.

  2. Referral business – Every one of your articles on our site automatically gets a link to your profile, which has your contact details and a link to your website. Customers are free to contact you directly to commission additional work. No commissions; they’re all yours. In fact, we encourage them to contact you. When we email them your copy, we include another link to your profile and prompt them to contact you for further work.

  3. Repeat business – Once a customer uses your copy, they’re very likely to contact you to request more work. After all, they already know they like your writing. Many of FreeCopywriting.com customers are people who need just a page or two of copy to get their business momentum going, after which they’ll be ready to invest more. Many others are new to the world of copywriting and are hesitant to engage a copywriter without seeing a very specific sample of writing first.

  4. Quality Rating – Customers can rate your article and – if they contact you directly – the quality of your service. (We contact customers one week after they use your copy and remind them to supply feedback.) We record and average these ratings, and display them as part of your copywriter profile – in much the same way as eBay. The higher your rating, the more likely it is that customers will use your copy and request further work. In fact, you can even cite your FreeCopywriting.com rating as proof of your credibility to win work outside of FreeCopywriting.com.

  5. Showcase Your Talents – FreeCopywriting.com is a great stage on which to showcase your copy talents. This is particularly useful if you’re just starting out and you’re looking for your big break.

  6. Incentives - usually in the form of Visa Gift cards.
As you can see, there are plenty of good reason to submit your copy. But if you're still in any doubt, please feel free to call the owner of this site, Glenn Murray, on +612 4334 6222 at any time during business hours. (That means 9am - 5pm Sydney time. If you're not in Australia, please check the current time in Sydney before calling.)

And if, at any time, you decide it’s not working for you, simply remove your copy. You retain ownership of the copyright. (You just can’t ask customers to return or remove copy they’ve used.)

Q: Will I get paid for submitting my copy?

A: No. Not directly. But if your copy is very good, it should only be a matter of time before paying customers contact you to commission changes or additional work. In fact, we actively encourage them to do so. What's more, as noted above, customers are obliged to include a link to your website from theirs if they use your copy on their website. This will help increase your website's referral traffic and search engine traffic, so there's every chance you'll earn additional revenue as a result.

Q: Why does FreeCopywriting.com give copy away?

A: Because it attracts a lot of traffic to the FreeCopywriting.com website, which, in turn, means more poeple will click on the Google ads that appear throughout the site. And this is where our revenue comes from.

Q: How do I submit my copy?

A: Simply register, log in and submit using the WYSIWYG editor.

Q: What kind of copy can I submit?

A: Virtually anything - so long as it adheres to our submission guidelines, of course. Web copy, SEO copy, brochure copy, letter copy / DM, ad concept & copy, scripts, taglines... Just don’t submit articles. There are hundreds of other sites for posting articles. This site is for copywriting only.

Q: Who will use the copywriting I submit?

A: People who need copy for their promotional materials. Many of FreeCopywriting.com customers are people who need just a page or two of copy to get their business momentum going, after which they’ll be ready to invest more. Many others are new to the world of copywriting and are hesitant to engage a copywriter without seeing a very specific sample of writing first.

Q: Who do I write about?

A: You're writing copy for a hypothetical client. So you might, for example, pretend that you've received a brief to write some copy for a company called 'XYZ Computers'. They operate only in the West of Sydney, selling computer systems and services to small businesses. See also How do I write about a hypothetical client?.

Q: How do I write about a hypothetical client?

A: You need to imagine what the hypothetical client would need written. So, as for any client, the sorts of things you should think about are:
  • what do they do?
  • what's unique about what they do?
  • what benefits do they deliver to their clients?
  • what kind of people constitute their target audience?
  • what are the needs of this audience?
  • how does XYZ Computers cater to those needs?
  • what keywords would they target for Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
  • etc.
Some tips:
  1. Read a full list of questions to ask yourself before writing your copy.
  2. Read some helpful tips on structuring and writing web copy.
  3. If you're having trouble, choose a real company and write some copy around them. Then just remove their name (and any sensitive or distinguishing details) and voila! You have some copy that you can submit to FreeCopywriting.com.
  4. Use "Widgets" or "ABC" or "XYZ" or "XXX" or some other indicator that the client is hypothetical.

Q: Will submitting copy increase my search rank?

A: Yes – assuming you submit enough. After your first piece of copy is approved, you get a public profile, complete with an active link to your copywriting website. As you know, inbound links are the key to a high ranking, and links from high ranking, relevant sites are the best sort. What’s more, customers who use your copy on their website are required to include a link to your website in the footer of their web page. If your copy is used by a hundred different customers, that’s a hundred unique links to your website! In this respect, FreeCopywriting.com works much like article submission sites like EzineArticles.com; but instead of dealing in articles, it deals in copy.

Q: Will I get referral business if I submit my copy?

A: While we can’t guarantee it, it’s very likely. In fact, we do our utmost to ensure that it happens. Every one of your articles automatically gets a link to your profile, which has your contact details and a link to your website. And customers are encouraged to contact you directly to commission additional work. No commissions; they’re all yours. When we email them your copy, we include a link to your profile and prompt them to contact you for further work.

Q: Will I get repeat business if I submit my copy?

A: Once a customer uses your copy, they’re very likely to contact you to request more work. Many customers are new to the world of copywriting and are hesitant to engage a copywriter without seeing a very specific sample of writing first. Fortunately for you, they already know they like your writing. Of course, we can’t guarantee it, but it makes sense.

Q: How does the rating system work?

A: Customers can rate your article and – if they contact you directly – the quality of your service. (We contact customers two weeks after they use your copy and remind them to supply feedback.) We record and average these ratings, and display them as part of your copywriter profile – in much the same way as eBay does.

Q: Why is the rating system important?

A: The rating system tells prospective customers how popular your copy is and how well regarded your service is. This is particularly important for two reasons: 1) Many customers can’t actually tell whether your writing is technically good or not. They’ll rely on the rating to make their judgement. 2) If a customer is considering contacting you to commission some additional work, your service quality rating will carry a great deal of weight. Put simply, the higher your ratings, the more likely it is that customers will use your copy and request further work. In fact, you can even cite your FreeCopywriting.com ratings as proof of your credibility to win work outside of FreeCopywriting.com.

Q: I’m new to copywriting, will this help me get established?

A: Yes. Once again, we can’t guarantee it, but FreeCopywriting.com is a great stage on which to showcase your talents. It gets a lot of visitors, many of whom are customers who will need more than just a couple of pieces of free copywriting. They use FreeCopywriting.com as a launch-pad, contacting copywriters directly to commission additional work.

Q: Who owns the copyright of the copy I submit?

A: You do. Customers who download it are granted non-exclusive usage rights only. You’re free to edit it on FreeCopywriting.com or remove it completely. However, for obvious practical reasons, you can’t ask customers to return or remove copy they’ve used.

Q: Can I edit or delete my copy after I submit it?

A: Yes. You’re free to edit it on FreeCopywriting.com or remove it completely. However, for obvious practical reasons, you can’t ask customers to return or remove copy they’ve used.

Q: How many pages per submission?

A: One. Example: If you're submitting 5 pages of web copy, submit each page separately. But keep ad concept & copy together. See also our Submission Guidelines and Writer Resources pages.

Q: Who decides whether my copy will be posted on the site?

A: When you submit some copywriting, it is emailed to the FreeCopywriting.com editor for approval. At the moment, that’s me (Glenn Murray – director of Divine Write Copywriting Pty Ltd). But it’s not entirely out of the question that other copywriters / editors will be engaged to perform this task at some stage in the future. If your copy is approved, it will be posted automatically, and you’ll be sent a notification email, containing a link to your live article. If your copy is rejected, you’ll be sent a notification email.

Q: If my copywriting is rejected, will you tell me why?

A: In most cases, no. We simply don’t have the time.

Q: How do I specify my Google AdSense ID at FreeCopywriting.com?

A: If you’re already a registered copywriter at FreeCopywriting.com, you can specify your AdSense ID simply by editing your profile:
  1. Log in to FreeCopywriting.com
  2. Click Edit profile (top right of page)
  3. Then just enter your AdSense ID where requested
TIP: Although the Password field is blank, you don’t have to enter a password. Your existing password won’t be changed.

If you’re not yet a registered copywriter at FreeCopywriting.com, just register; you’ll be asked for your AdSense ID in the process:
  1. Register with FreeCopywriting.com
  2. Enter your AdSense ID where requested

Q: I don’t have a Google AdSense ID. How do I get one?

A: Simple. Just sign up to the Google AdSense program. It’s free and there’s no obligation.

Q: What is Google AdSense?

A: AdSense is a rewards program run by Google. It works like this. We’ve set FreeCopywriting.com up to automatically display Google ads. So if you write some copy for a hypothetical cake shop, and submit it to FreeCopywriting.com, Google will display cake-related ads whenever someone reads that copy. And when they click on one the ads, Google pays a commission. Half the time, that commission goes to us. The other half of the time, it goes to you.

Q: What is a Google AdSense ID?

A: An AdSense ID is a unique code that Google gives you when you sign up to the AdSense program. Whenever you place ads on a website, you associate those ads with your AdSense ID, so Google knows who to pay when people click on the ads.

Q: How does a Google AdSense ID help me when I’m using FreeCopywriting.com?

A: It works like this.

Q: Do I need a Google AdSense ID to use FreeCopywriting.com?

A: No. Anyone can submit copy to FreeCopywriting.com without an AdSense ID. But without one, you won’t get any money when someone clicks the ads that appear next to your copy.

Q: Does it cost me anything to have a Google AdSense ID or to use it at FreeCopywriting.com?

A: No. Absolutely not. Google AdSense is a free program, with no obligation (either from Google or FreeCopywriting.com).

Q: How much will I earn through Google AdSense on FreeCopywriting.com?

A: The amount you’re paid for each click varies (based on a whole lot of very complicated factors – i.e. they’re too confusing for me to understand!). Chances are, it’ll normally be less than $1. We’re not actually allowed to disclose how much we earn per click (that’s in Google’s Terms & Conditions). But we can say that the ads on FreeCopywriting.com perform far better than the ads on ArticlePR.com (another site in our network), and they deliver almost twice the revenue per click. Read Google’s answer to this question for more information on revenue.

Q: How can I increase my revenue from Google AdWords on FreeCopywriting.com?

A: Write and submit lots of quality copy. Stuff that real businesses can actually use – and will want to use. That’s the key. Put yourself in their shoes. Also, if you write about something mainstream and competitive (e.g. cars, travel, hospitality, IT, etc.), you’ll probably earn more from AdSense than if you write about something really obscure (e.g. floral tea sets or old-fashioned typewriters!). In competitive industries, advertisers (the people who are paying Google for the ads that appear on FreeCopywriting.com) pay quite a bit each time someone clicks on their ads. It can be hundreds of times what your local second-hand crockery dealer is paying. And that’s what you’re getting a slice of. So try to write for the businesses whose Cost-Per-Click is likely to be high.

Q: How do I know how many times people have clicked on the ads associated with my copy?

A: The best way to keep tabs on things is to regularly log in to your Google AdSense account and run a report. (If you run other Google Ads elsewhere, you might want to set up a ‘Channel’ to monitor the performance of your ads on FreeCopywriting.com.) But as a courtesy, we’ll send you a weekly report detailing how many times the ads next to your copy have been clicked, and how many of those clicks have been attributed to your Google AdSense ID. (Remember, half the clicks are attributed to your AdSense ID, and half are attributed to ours.)

Q: Who pays me when someone clicks on a Google ad next to my copy?

A: Google pays you directly, just as they pay us. To them, you’re just another webmaster, just like us.

Q: When will I get paid when someone clicks on a Google ad next to my copy?

A: Google pays you directly. They say, “We'll send your check or EFT payment within approximately 30 days of the end of the month in which your account balance reaches US$100.” Read Google's discussion of payment.

Q: Can I click on the ads next to my copy to earn more revenue?

A: No absolutely not! That’s called ‘Click Fraud’. If you do that, you’ll get in big trouble from Google and maybe the law. Be sure to read Google’s Terms & Conditions carefully when you sign up to the AdSense program.
